Volume 1: Navigating Narratives

About Being in a society made of many parts, and in a digital era where everyone has the agency to voice their own opinions, how does one steer through and locate oneself within the multitudes of nuanced, delicate and often contradicting narratives?

In the first volume of MAKING MALAYSIA, we unpack how BEHATI, Layar Lucida, Ejin Sha, 33.3, No-To-Scale* and Sharmin Parameswaran creatively navigate through the intricate layers of societal narratives within their own fields of operation.

MakMal 2: What’s In A Picture
12.10.2024

It is said that we remember 80% of what we see, 20% of what we read, and 10% of what we hear. A look into our social media habits and the increasing use of TikTok, Reels, and YouTube Shorts is evident of that — we are visual creatures with an appetite for moving pictures.

How then does one tell a story in today’s social climate? How can we construct a compelling visual language that encapsulates the nuances of the story we wish to tell? What's in a Picture explores how a story is conceptualised for film through constructing a mini lookbook and a teaser poster design.

In a design review circle with creative film production studio Layar Lucida, and graphic designer and visual artist Ejin Sha whose work involves visual identities, participants present and exchange feedbacks on their ideas and design.
